of Puget Sound Rescue Program
Thank you for your interest in Cavalier
Rescue! Cavaliers of Puget Sound is
a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the public on
all aspects of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. One of these
areas is Cavalier Rescue. The dogs that come through rescue are
either from a shelter (abandoned or picked up as a stray) or
an owner release (for personal reasons owner is unable to keep
the dog).
Cavaliers
of Puget Sound is now referring all rescue inquiries to our
National club. That address is http://www.ackcsc.org/.
After getting to their site you'll find the link to Rescue
on their left menu.
Real Rescue Stories She
snuck into our hearts as Fred's partner, but quickly became Queen
of the sofa and our "Town Crier" at meal times. We
have no idea what her life was like before she joined our little
family,
but she definitely became the matriarch of our little crew. Ethel
had a cute, feminine personality. She was quick to wag her tail
and do circles if you weren't moving FAST enough to get her dinner
to her. She was my constant shadow for nearly a year. If I left
the room, even if she was fast asleep, she would find me. She
loved to bury her head in my leg as I would pet her. Let her
up on the bed and she was QUEEN of all she surveyed. When she
was awake, that is. Ethel spent a good deal of her time sleeping.
Towards the end breathing was a BIG chore and took lots of energy,
Energy she didn't have. Her tail stopped wagging. It was harder
and harder to wake her up and even harder to get her to go outside.
You could hear her breathing even when you weren't in the room
with her. As with Fred, we held her in our arms at the Vets and
she quickly went on to the rainbow bridge where Fred was (I am
sure) Gallantly awaiting her. Her whole appearance changed. She
was relaxed for the first time in months, there was no more pain,
no more struggling to breath. She looked so sweet and so peaceful.
She is already missed. She will join Fred on our mantle where
she can still be Queen of all she surveys.
Passed January 21, 2003 It
is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of
Fred the Fearless. My dear old rescue boy, who came into our
lives earlier this year and gave us so much pleasure. Much to
our surprise he lived longer then anyone had thought possible.
We aren't sure of his age. To me his eyes were ageless. He was
fearless, because he kept himself and Ethel alive while alone
on the horrible streets of Tacoma, WA. He taught our puppies
the meaning of pack order. And even though I am sure his life
was less then perfect, he learned to trust us and I think to
love us. I do know that he surely loved his dinner and any and
all treats. The last few months have been difficult for Fred.
What I thought was food aggression was turing into something
else. For his safety and the safety of the rest of the household
our Vet and George and I decided that Fred was not having any
quality of life. He
had a great weekend last weekend at our Cavalier Specialty. Got
to bark at any and all who passed within a mile of our trailer.
He got to meet many of our Club members. At home he just wasn't
with us much mentally any more. So,
yesterday I bathed him. Blew him dry. Made him smell nice and
got his fur all shinny. Told him he was a BEAUTIFUL show dog
(and in my heart he was) and KEPT our promise that he would go
with loving arms around him. His ashes will join others in our "puppy" garden
and his name will be added to our memory slate. Fred
the Fearless
